BursTrick Wake Boarding!! (Sony PlayStation, 2001)
An extreme extension of an already popular sport, wake boarding is to water skiing what snowboarding is to downhill skiing. Burstrick Wake Boarding for the PlayStation is the first game that attempts to emulate the speed and crazy tricks that wake boarding has to offer. The game puts players behind a high-powered boat, boarding, jumping and tricking their way through a number of courses to prove that they are best in the fledgling extreme sport.
Perhaps the most alluring thing about Burstrick Wake Boarding is that it was designed to be a budget game, and can therefore be purchased brand new for $10. The game features six levels, and while there is no variation in the height of the water, there are plenty of ramps to jump and obstacles to avoid.
The levels can be played in Obstacle or Trick modes. Obstacle mode has players attempting to beat the clock as they rush through the levels, grabbing rings to pump up their score but being careful to avoid pitfalls such as docks, boats and rocks. Trick mode has players attempting various tricks off of their board. Tricks can be performed by pressing directions and buttons according to a box near the bottom of the screen. There are a number of different boarders and boards to select, although these choices do not have any impact on the actual gameplay.
